On January 31, 1998, the De Havilland Canada Dash-8 Q400 made its first flight.
Designed as a 70-seat stretched version of the popular Dash-8, the aircraft features two fuselage plugs, modern avionics, and two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150A engines driving Dowty 6-blade propellers.
Production ran from 1998 to 2022. The 400 proved popular even outside its airline origins. Maritime patrols, aerial firefighting, and other adaptations have been used worldwide.
While production has stopped due to De Havilland’s original home of Downsview being sold. The company states it is considering restarting production once its new production facility outside Calgary is complete, approximately in 2033.
